Friendly Shores is a small subdivision of 12 lots at the east end of Friendly Shores Road terminating at the intracoastal waterway. The subdivision is located between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. The community has a marina with 12 slips where boats are tide off parallel, six on each side, to a center floating dock. The docks are accessed by means of an aluminum gangway. Slips are stated to be 25 feet. The docks are protected from wakes coming from the intracoastal by a bulkheaded peninsula to the north and some naturally forming islands to the east.
Friendly Shores is located behind Masonboro Island, a 7.5 mile long undeveloped barrier island which can be accessed in several location of the intracoastal waterway.
The Friendly Shores marina is located 5 miles north of the Carolina Beach Inlet, which is not maintained and can be tricky to negotiate. Masonboro Inlet is 3.7 miles to the north which is one of the best inlets on the North Carolina coast. It is over a mile wide and has protective jetties out nearly 2000 feet from the mouth of the inlet.
There is reasonable participation given the small number of residents the marina services.
