Masonboro Harbour has an excellent marina, dug into the mainland and well protected for intracoastal waterway wake. The entry channel is curved to further isolate boats in the marina from the relentless buffeting of wakes coming from the intracoastal waterway. The harbor is bulkheaded on all sides with the docks floating inside. Boats are docked in double berths with piles. The docks are a well equipped as you would hope for in any private marina with utility pedestals between each berth. Dock boxes are clearly personal preference.
Masonboro Harbour Is located behind Masonboro Island, a 7.5 mile long undeveloped barrier island which can be accessed in several locations off the intracoastal waterway.
The marina is 4 miles north of the Carolina Beach Inlet, which is not maintained and can be tricky to negotiate. Masonboro Inlet is 4.5 miles to the north which is one of the best inlets on the North Carolina coast. It is over a mile wide and has protective jetties out nearly 2000 feet from the mouth of the inlet.
Neighborhood participation in the marina is very high.
