Blue Heron Bay is a fairly large subdivision west of Morehead City with approximately 65 lots. The subdivision sits on Bogue Sound across from Emerald Isle. The marina is a well-protected, artificial harbor. It is well equipped and maintained. The marina has a ramp.

Bogue Sound Yacht Club is a gated neighborhood on Bogue Sound about 12 miles west of Morehead City and 9 miles east of Swansboro. It consists of a single street running from Highway 24 to the sound, terminating at a well-protected, well-equipped marina cut into the mainland.

The Sea Gate is a large subdivision about 8 miles north of Morehead City and Beaufort that clearly takes boating and its marina facility very seriously. First platted in 1972, it's a diverse, well-established community with a well-protected harbor dug into the mainland off Adam's Creek, a channel running north and south between the Neuse River and Beaufort Inlet. Community participation is very high, with very few empty slips. They say they can handle boats up to 60 feet. It's as well-equipped a community marina as you'll find anywhere. They even have fuel, gas, and diesel, and a convenience store next to the harbor.
