It's a densely wooded subdivision. Neighborhood participation is high, which should help to ensure continuing upkeep.
Otter Creek is a 15-parcel subdivision around Horton Road with a 6-slip common dock on Otter Creek. Otter Creek shares a peninsula with Horton Landing to the northwest, all just across Green Creek from the Oriental waterfront. Several of the houses in Otter Creek have their own private docks. On the day that I visited, only one of the 6 slips was in use. The docks are basic and show their age, but the decking is being replaced as needed. The docks are less than a half mile across Greens Creek to Oriental's waterfront.

Buccaneer Bay West is a 128-parcel subdivision on the eastern banks of Kershaw Creek, with a 31-slip community dock about a mile west of the Oriental waterfront. Oriental is a small town that is known as the 'Sailing Capital of North Carolina'. The docks are basic but well-constructed, with a concrete-based deck surface known as 'hog slats'. Slips appear to be 30 feet in length.
Teach's Cove is a 16-unit condominium complex in two multi-unit buildings of 8 units each. Units range from 1050 to 1280 square feet, most of which are 3-bedroom, 2-bath. The community docks have 12 slips and are 36 feet long. The complex sits less than 1000 feet from the waterfront in Oriental, NC, across Smith Creek. Just 20 miles south through the Core Creek canal puts you at Morehead City and Beaufort. Twenty-four miles west and you're in historic New Bern.
Spinnaker Point consists of 23 parcels along Smith Creek, 10 of which appear to be landlocked. Lots generally range from 0.5 to 0.75 acres. Completed waterfront homes have reached values just under $1 million at this writing.
Oriental West Condominiums has 14 dwelling units and 14 boat slips in a well-equipped facility on Smith Creek. It’s only 3 or 4 blocks from the center of Oriental at Raccoon Creek. All units are 1008 sq ft, 2-bedroom, 2-full-bath, except Building C, which has two unique floor plans, and I’m not sure about its size and configuration. Each unit is contained within a single floor. There are no elevators.
The Whittaker Point Marina is a top-notch facility, but it is no longer associated with the Whittaker Point neighborhood. Marina membership, or any right to join, is completely optional and not included with the purchase of a lot or house in the neighborhood.
Dolphin Point subdivision contains 43 lots in the original plat. About 30 more lots are marked for future development, for a total of about 73. The community dock has 10 slips. Please ensure you own a lot in the neighborhood with an attached slip. Slips can not be sold to non-owners. The docks are a wooden-frame construction with a concrete base and decking.
Neuse Winds is a high-end neighborhood of about 41 lots. All but a half dozen or so are on the water, and most of them have their own docks. Consequently, the community docks at Neuse Winds have suffered from neglect. No boats were docked there when I visited. Missing decking boards, particularly on the partial fingers, are creating unsafe conditions. Power service exists, but only one meter was installed.
Up The Creek is a 9-lot subdivision with a community marina on Broad Creek, a tributary of Pamlico Sound on the north side. The subdivision has 10 slips for its 9 lots and can accommodate boats up to 50 feet. The docks had just been rebuilt when inspected and were in great shape.
