Windchase is a 13-lot subdivision that sits at the northeast mouth of Whiskey Creek. The fixed-height docks are exposed to relentless wakes from the intracoastal water. As a result, most slips have power lifts. There are 18 slips: 16 doubles with partial finger piles in between. There are 2 more slips at each end of the docks. Power and water are available on the docks, but I could not inspect them from a distance.
Oyster Bay is a 25-lot subdivision of Masonboro Sound Road. This is a high-end neighborhood with an excellent marina. The marina has a central ramp with docks on either side in a horseshoe configuration. Although there is no bulkheading or breakwater, the structure uses the existing terrain to minimize wake buffeting. There are no fingers, so boarding must take place from the bow or stern. Utility pedestals are located between each berth. Dock boxes are clearly the owner’s preference. There’s a covered pavilion, grilling, and picnicking areas—a marina befitting its surroundings.

Mason Knoll is a neighborhood built in the 1980s with a very 80s flair. Modern minimal designs with natural rustic finishes. The subdivision was developed before waterfront property in the area became as scarce, desirable, and expensive. The docks are a simple affair. The boats are tied to piles and are perpendicular to the pier. The area is tidal, and the dock is fixed. Ladders are employed to board or disembark. The depth is unknown to me at this time, but most of the boats docked there are neither large nor do they have a deep draft.

The Bluffs at Trails End is a small subdivision consisting of 7 lots along the east side of the cul-de-sac of Lauralis Bluff Court. The community dock has 6 slips, and one property has its own private dock alongside it. All the slips have power lifts. The creek is tidal and can be shallow.

Twin Oaks Condominiums consist of two buildings. The building closest to the water has 4 units: 2-story condos around 1,100 square feet. The other building has 2 condo units, one on the ground floor and one on the second floor. The complex is about 1/3 of a mile up Whiskey Creek, which flows into the intracoastal waterway. The common dock has 6 slips. Two double piles and one slip on each end of the docks. They would appear to max out at around 15 feet. The area is tidal and can be shallow at low tide.
The Overlook is a small subdivision of 7 lots all on the Cranesbill Court cul de sac off Trails End Road. Their common docks on Whiskey Creek have 7 slips all with Power lifts. The docks have a short pier with a covered pavilion overlooking Whiskey Creek. The docks are a fixed height. Slips are stated to be 24 feet.

Friendly Shores is a small subdivision of 12 lots at the east end of Friendly Shores Road terminating at the intracoastal waterway. The subdivision is located between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. The community has a marina with 12 slips where boats are tide off parallel, six on each side, to a center floating dock. The docks are accessed by means of an aluminum gangway. Slips are stated to be 25 feet. The docks are protected from wakes coming from the intracoastal by a bulkheaded peninsula to the north and some naturally forming islands to the east.

Masonboro Landing in small subdivision of 20 lots midway between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. The marina is a bulkheaded rectangle with all boats docked on the south side. There are no fingers so boaters must board from the bow or stern depending how you're docked. Boats are tied off to piles on each side of the birth. There is a floating deck along the south wall with aluminum gangways on both ends. Water is provided but there are no dock boxes or utility pedestals. There is a breakwater on the east end of the harbor to dampen wakes from the intracoastal waterway. I would expect a small amount of buffeting from wakes but nothing damaging. None of the boats were on power lifts.

Helms Port is a gated community consisting of 159 lots midway between Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. Lot generally range from .5 to .25 acres with must being on the lower end of that scale. Amenities include a clubhouse, community pool and, of course, the marina. And an excellent marina it is, one of the best in the state. It is well dug into the mainland with a long entry channel isolating the harbor from the wakes of boat traffic on the intracoastal waterway. There a 75 slips, doubles with piles in between and full fingers with corner gussets. The harbor is bulkheaded on all around with floating decks inside. They are as well equipped as you would expect any private marina to be with utility pedestals between each berth and the owner's choice of dock boxes.

Masonboro Harbour has an excellent marina, dug into the mainland and well protected for intracoastal waterway wake. The entry channel is curved to further isolate boats in the marina from the relentless buffeting of wakes coming from the intracoastal waterway. The harbor is bulkheaded on all sides with the docks floating inside. Boats are docked in double berths with piles. The docks are a well equipped as you would hope for in any private marina with utility pedestals between each berth. Dock boxes are clearly personal preference.

Masons Bluff is a 10-parcel subdivision around a single street and cul-de-sac running from Middle Sound Loop Road to the intracoastal waterway in northeastern New Hanover County. Three of the 10 parcels are waterfront, with the remaining 7 landlocked. None of the three waterfront properties have private docks, so the common dock has 10 slips. It's a bit of a hike to the slips, which are 200 yards from the shore. There is a pavilion at the docks. The slips are 30 feet long, with double slips, full fingers, and piles in between. All slips accept one boat; one appeared to have a power lift. The docks are right off the intracoastal waterway, with no breakwater, and are subject to wake buffeting.
All of the slips, except one, are equipped with power lifts. The docks are floating with wood framing and wood decking. They have utility pedestals.
Bradley Oaks Condominiums is a 16-unit development perched on a rounded peninsula on Bradley Creek, taking full advantage of the views for every unit. The development offers 3- and 4-bedroom models, all with 3 & 1/2 baths and ranging from 2200 to 2500 sq ft. There appear to be 16 slips, one for each unit. They accommodate up to 35 footers. Slips are doubles with piles and partial fingers. Every slip appears to have a dock box. They are floating and appear to have a synthetic plank surface. Approach is from a wooden pier with an aluminum gangway.
Poplar Grove Point is a small, 9-parcel subdivision off Scotts Hill Loop Road. Although just northeast of Wilmington, it is in Pender County. The subdivision's houses are large and stately, with lots ranging from a little over 0.5 to 1.0 acre. Poplar Grove Point has exceptionally nice docks with wide synthetic flow-through deck surface and a floating dock for convenient loading and unloading. All of the slips are equipped with power lifts. The docks also include a covered pavilion and a fish sink. The wide fingers make it easy to move along the full length of your boat. The docks are just off the intracoastal waterway, so wakes in the area are an issue, making the fixed height and lifts a practical necessity. It would appear that every parcel gets a cock and there is a high level of participation from the neighborhood.
Figure Eight Harbour is a 23-unit condominium complex on the intracoastal waterway behind Figure Eight Island. Most units are 3-bedroom, 3-bath, around 1,660 square feet, with a few variations. There are 24 slips in the marina. Approximately half of the slips have power lifts. The docks are right off the intracoastal waterway, and there is no breakwater, so wakes are an issue. Oyster Point is a 52-parcel subdivision in the Porter’s Neck area of Northeast New Hanover County. It occupies two separate tracts of land. One tract is a peninsula on the eastern side of Everett’s Creek, a tributary to Pages Creek. Most of the assigned spaces were about 20 feet, with a few 24-foot spaces. That didn't work out; today, no boats are berthed on the east side of the platform. It is clearly too narrow and too shallow to dock on that side.
